It’s now a firm fixture on the Western Cape MTB and trail run calendars. The Camphill Sports Challenge has become a popular annual event for cyclists and runners and this year it takes place on Saturday 22 February. Held under the auspices of Hermanus Adventures, it takes enthusiasts into some of the most beautiful nooks and crannies of the Hemel en Aarde Valley. And even for those who are not super-fit, but enjoy an outdoor challenge, there are shorter runs and walks for every member of the family.

Best of all, while you enjoy a day in the open air, you’ll be contributing to a worthy cause. On this day of the year Camphill School flings wide its doors and invites you to come in and share in the special kind of magic to be found at this remarkable School and, at the same time, help to ensure its sustainability.

Of course, being a school, events for the children are a major feature. Apart from a Fun Walk for moms, dads, grannies, grandpas and children of all ages, along the picturesque Onrus River, there will be water balls, pony rides and novelty races of all kinds.

And the rumbling stomachs have not been forgotten. All morning delicious breakfasts will be on sale, as well as boerewors rolls and lots of other goodies. You can also buy the famous Camphill Farm breads and cheeses, as well as fresh herbs, veggies and crafts. For the cyclists, runners and walkers, there’ll be a free coffee on registration and a free boerie roll, coldrink and medal at the finishing line.

Remember, these are not races! This is an opportunity to enjoy some of the most beautiful courses in the Western Cape and to challenge your personal best. MTB riders will have a choice of 30 km, 20 km and 10 km to test their mettle, at R140, R100 and R50 respectively, while trail runners can choose between 15 km and 10 km trails at R95 and R65 respectively. The 5 km River Run / Walk costs R45 per person and the 2 km Fun Walk, R30.

Even greater participation than last year is expected, so don’t delay, sign up at once. Pre-registrations can be done at www.enteronline.co.za. For more information, call Camphill School at 028 3124949 or e-mail school@camphill-hermanus.org.za. See you at the starting line – complete with shiny bikes and bouncy running shoes.
